Super Stories

Today I was introduced to African television with Super Stories, the Nigerian equivalent of a soap opera. Todays episode followed Jide, a young boy who ran away from home in the hopes of uniting his disfunctional family. Unfortunately the bus that Jide was riding in crashed and we have to tune in next week to find out his fate. I was amused by the melodramatic scenes, fake crying, and bad acting but it was even more fun to watch the nun's reactions. Super Stories is quite a hit with the nuns. You might be hard pressed to get all six of them together for a meal but no one would miss Super Stories. The Sisters keep a running commentary going and some of them talk to the characters like it's possible to influence their actions. I even find it interesting to watch the commercials such as a powdered milk product that will "do your body good." If only I could watch The Office...

  1. You may be interested to know the Office was "to be continued: this week, so we're on the edges of our seats over here too. Hopefully next week will bring a happy resolution for both shows :)
